Still Okay

This past saturday 13 of us volunteered at Ronald McDonald house. We cooked Fried Rice, dumplings (steamed and fried) and brownies for dessert. I thought this was my chance to also learn how to cook chinese food the right way. Apparently, the secret to fried rice is soy sauce and for dumplings - buy them ready made at Sam's. Maybe next time...

Neways, The "hotel" is really nice.. a patient can have up to 3 family members stay with them for only $15/night. And they cook for themselves, the kitchens fits 8 stoves/ovens, plus an industrial type fridge/freezer. Entertainment is set too, there's 2 tv rooms on the 2nd floor, and a media room with big tv screen, pool table.. I'm assuming there's no chance anyone can get bored here.. but according to Brandy from Ar-kansas (who's older sister and younger sister have cystic fibrosis) she gets bored still.. All I could say was , "Hmmm, I can imagine."... I was lying.. because I could never imagine how life could be in their shoes. So encouraging to know that they are so open about talking about their illness. It seems like they want to make it easy for us, maybe even make us more comfortable. Ironic eh? I also met this girl Jackie, she's 15 years old from El Paso. She told me that she has a brain tumor and she and her family has to drive to Houston now and them for a check up. Her illness made her miss her schoold and she loooooves school so she really misses it especially her friends. Surprsingly, she's tells me this, with her sweet smile not once leave her face. So I said, " So amazing, with all this, you still have a smile." And she said, " Of course, life is full of good moments, .. cannot waste time just being mad all the time!". Wow, wow.. I wanted to cry and just give her one big hug! .. Listening to her just made my problems look small. Once in your life if your lucky, great people like Jackie come to your life and brings you back to what's really important - LIFE! So I may not be able to go to a cool vacation this year, I will still be okay . So my parent may have to sell their house, we will still be okay. So I may not have a job in a couple of months, I will still be okay. I will still be okay, God is with me. I will still be okay.

homesick

so i hung out w/ my mom and her friends this past sunday nite to see my favorite flip group Apo Hiking Society..they've been singing for 30 yrs... with Joey Albert... after the concert we stalked them at tan tan's .. yes, stalked no shame here..

it was a great concert..kinda bittersweet....brought back sweet memories about home...more like my childhood..when the world was innocent, pure..naive... my brother ton-ton was still here.(i miss him a lot!)..my little cousins were still little..when the whole family went swimming every saturdays, when we have freshly baked bread for breakfast, when christmas really felt like christmas even w/ no monies, when the grownups made the kids laugh at family dinner..
hmm.. sometimes we forget to appreciate the ppl we love while they're still around.. then all of a sudden they're gone or leave .. and u end up with a lot of " i should've", "i couldhave"... lesson learned... i try do things differnt now.. i make sure (well, i do try my darndest) i let ppl know how much they mean to me.. the family, gary, marley..(yes even kids need to hear that)... my friends.. new friends..who lately have been good influences on old me...jen suggested we play this game at lunch 2day where we go around and say what we appreciate about each other... it was cool and awesome to hear what you are to this other person... i feel blessed.. some ppl dont get so lucky... for some ppl it's told at their eulogy and by time it's too late.. u know... to add a commentary or a correction. ( k too wicked.. goin to sleep)

I got to spend a little time this Easter Sunday with my 1st godchild Mellany who will turn 16 this Thursday and my youngest godchild Joelle who just turned 1 this past February. (try not to calculate my age... need more than your 2 hands!) Don't they look cute tho? I know it has a lot to do with me being their godmother...

Seriously tho.. i hope i do a great job being their godmother.. i wasnt too great when mellany was growing up... now that she's a teenager and moved back to houston from cali. i'm trying to make up for lost time.. that reminds me.. need to track down the rest of my godchildren.. what were their parents thinking?!

anyhow.. i did my first tie dye this weekend too for my sunday school kids.. it came out really cool.. thank goodness.. these kids are very blunt about their feelings... i baked brownies one time and they were not shy to tell my that it was hard as a rock...

i was sooo proud of them . i mean i know they r no professional singers and dancers and not perfect at all but it's really different when they do their best ..and i knew God was smiling at them but laughing hysterically at me when the bean game didnt turn out as fun as the bean game at HCCs english retreat.
Let's just say.. i almost had 3 bald headed little girls! ...

" Mommy, that's my favorite, that's my favorite!"...As I tried to guess which one he likes... I said.. (refer to pix)..

me:  is it the doctor?...

kid:  nope

me:  the dog? the animaniac in Pink?  in brown pants? red hat?

kid:  nope ..nope..nope..nope..

me:  the lady in the white dress?

kid:  (excitedly!!) YEAH...

me: really?  (and he nods his head) b/c she's really really smart?

kid:  nope

me:  b/c she's pretty?

kid:  yup...
